Typescript copies of letters received by General Henry Knox while serving with the Continental Artillery Regiment in the Revolutionary War, 29 July 1776- 28 Oct. 1782. Includes letters received from Alexander Hamilton, R.H. [Robert Hanson] Harrison, Richard K. Meade, and Samuel B. Webb, among others. Letter include descriptions of orders from George Washington, tactical plans and strategies, battle updates, and supply and equipment use and distribution. The letters were transcribed by William Arthur Oldridge in the 1950's and the collection also includes a letter from Oldridge to Massachusetts Historical Society librarian Stephen T. Riley, October 27, 1953, pertaining to the letters and his transcription process. Original letters located at The Library of Congress and New York Public Library.

Samuel Blachley Webb was born in Wethersfield, Connecticut on December 15, 1753. His mother later married Silas Deane, whom Webb served as private secretary.
